The Fool — Hesitation

Original Artwork
Acrylic on Canvas
40 × 60 cm
Painted in 2021

Part of the original See You Tomorrow collection by Duy Khanh Vo.

The Fool portrays a young woman standing between directions, suspended in a moment of uncertainty. Unlike the traditional Fool who steps forward without fear, this figure remains still, caught between the desire to move and the fear of choosing the wrong path. Her hesitation does not come from weakness, but from a deeper question that many people carry throughout their lives: Where do I truly belong?

Created as part of the See You Tomorrow series, this painting explores the fragile space between leaving and staying, between certainty and doubt. There are moments when the world expects us to know exactly who we are and where we are going. Yet reality is often far more complicated. Sometimes we stand at the threshold of a new chapter while still feeling connected to the one we are about to leave behind.

Inspired by the spirit of The Fool, the artwork reimagines the archetype as a journey of self-discovery rather than blind adventure. The figure is not afraid of the unknown itself. What troubles her is the possibility that no destination will ever fully feel like home. She wonders whether belonging is a place waiting to be found, or something that must be created within herself.

Within the world of See You Tomorrow, this painting reflects a recurring emotional landscape: the search for identity amid fractured memories and changing realities. The uncertainty of the future becomes intertwined with the uncertainty of the self. As memories fade and old certainties disappear, the question remains—who are we when the places and people that once defined us begin to change?

Yet hesitation is not failure. Sometimes it is a necessary pause before transformation. It is the quiet moment in which we gather courage, listen to our inner voice, and prepare to take the next step, even without guarantees.

This artwork is a tribute to those who have ever felt caught between worlds, uncertain of where they belong or who they are becoming. It reminds us that the search itself may be just as meaningful as the destination.

About See You Tomorrow

"See You Tomorrow" is a story of healing, memory, and self-discovery.

The narrative follows Thanh, a young woman determined to uncover the truth behind a traumatic event that shattered the life of her older sister, Bao Khanh.

Once a talented and promising artist, Bao Khanh falls into severe psychological distress after her solo exhibition, Four PM. The experience leaves her struggling with memory loss and deep depression. Seeking answers, Thanh turns to the paintings created for the exhibition.

Through these artworks, she gradually uncovers fragments of forgotten stories, hidden emotions, and long-buried memories. Each painting becomes a doorway into Bao Khanh’s inner world, revealing clues that help piece together the mystery of her trauma and illuminate a path toward healing.

The See You Tomorrow Tarot was born from this fictional universe, where every card serves as both a symbolic tarot archetype and a fragment of a larger story.
