Part of the original Quên – Forget Tarot De Gap collection by Duy Khanh Vo.
The Fool in Hanoi portrays a young woman standing beside one of the city's most familiar yet easily overlooked symbols—a weathered utility pole quietly embedded within the rhythm of everyday life. Around her, Hanoi unfolds through fragments of memory, nostalgia, and movement, becoming both a real place and a landscape of the heart.
Created during the development of Quên – Forget Tarot De Gap, this artwork later became one of the inspirations for The Fool in Other Universes, where different versions of The Fool appear across alternate realities and locations. In this original interpretation, Hanoi serves as the beginning of the journey—the place where dreams are born before the road ahead becomes visible.
Inspired by the archetype of The Fool, the painting explores freedom, possibility, and the courage to embrace uncertainty. The young woman stands at the threshold between what is known and what has yet to be discovered. Like many travelers, she carries a longing for distant horizons while remaining deeply connected to the memories that shaped her.
The iconic utility pole becomes a symbol of everyday nostalgia. It represents the streets we walked countless times, the neighborhoods we thought we would never leave, and the ordinary details that become precious once they belong to the past. The Fool does not abandon these memories. She carries them with her as she steps toward the unknown.
Like many works within Quên, this piece reflects on the delicate relationship between remembrance and letting go. Freedom is not found by forgetting where we came from, but by allowing ourselves to continue moving forward while honoring the places that remain within us.
This artwork is a tribute to dreamers, wanderers, and those standing at the beginning of a new chapter. It reminds us that every journey starts with a single step, taken between nostalgia and possibility.

About Quên – Forget Tarot De Gap
Quên – Forget Tarot De Gap is an award-winning tarot project created by Vietnamese artist Duy Khanh Vo.
Winner of the CARTA Awards for Best Tarot Deck and Best Self-Published Tarot Deck, Quên follows the traditional Rider–Waite–Smith tarot system while weaving together personal memories, journeys across Asia, and reflections on healing, loss, and self-discovery.
More than a story about forgetting, Quên explores the meaning behind letting go. Through experiences gathered across Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China, and unnamed places of memory, each artwork becomes an invitation to understand ourselves more deeply and embrace the beauty found within change.
