The Emperor in Hai Phong portrays a young ruler whose authority is expressed not through force, but through presence. Standing quietly within the atmosphere of the northern port city, he carries an air of calm certainty, as though he has already learned that true power rarely needs to announce itself.
Created during the development of Quên – Forget Tarot De Gap, this artwork explores a different interpretation of The Emperor. Rather than depicting an aging king seated upon a grand throne, this version presents a younger figure who is still growing into his responsibilities. His confidence comes not from dominance, but from understanding himself and accepting the weight of the path ahead.
Hai Phong was chosen as the setting for a reason. Beneath its busy streets and industrial energy lies a quieter character—one defined by resilience, independence, and a certain northern reserve. The city carries its own sense of dignity, never demanding attention yet impossible to overlook. This silent strength became the inspiration behind the card.
Inspired by the archetype of The Emperor, the painting reflects stability, leadership, and self-discipline. Yet within the philosophy of Quên, authority is not simply about control. It is about knowing when to act and when to remain still. It is about understanding that strength can exist within silence, and that wisdom often grows through observation rather than command.
Like many works within Quên, this piece invites reflection on maturity and identity. The young emperor is not someone who has conquered the world. He is someone who has begun to understand his place within it. His journey is still unfolding, but the foundations beneath him are becoming steady.
This artwork is a tribute to quiet leadership, inner confidence, and the kind of strength that does not seek recognition because it already knows its own value.

About Quên – Forget Tarot De Gap
Quên – Forget Tarot De Gap is an award-winning tarot project created by Vietnamese artist Duy Khanh Vo.
Winner of the CARTA Awards for Best Tarot Deck and Best Self-Published Tarot Deck, Quên follows the traditional Rider–Waite–Smith tarot system while weaving together personal memories, journeys across Asia, and reflections on healing, loss, and self-discovery.
More than a story about forgetting, Quên explores the meaning behind letting go. Through experiences gathered across Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China, and unnamed places of memory, each artwork becomes an invitation to understand ourselves more deeply and embrace the beauty found within change.
